Hello everyone and welcome to the very first monthly newsletter from Niche. Here’s a snapshot of everything we’ve been up to over the last 30 days as well as providing you with some useful information. We hope you enjoy!

Quick round-up

We kicked off September with a team building exercise in Cardiff Bay, which saw the majority of our team take part in some white-water rafting. It was an incredibly enjoyable couple of hours with everyone ending up in the water at some point, and with a cold the following week!

We do however highly recommend taking part if you have the opportunity. The guys there really focus on getting you working as a team and all pulling in the right direction, which was entirely the point of the exercise.

September also saw the start of the Quilter Cheviot Paraplanner Roadshow. This is an event specifically focused on paraplanners and their increasingly important role within our profession. The event highlights their contribution and provides the opportunity for them to network and learn from guest speakers.

We were fortunate to be invited along to all 9 events as a guest speaker, talking about the role of cashflow planning within the financial planning process. If you didn’t already know, Niche developed software called CashCalc, which is now the number one cashflow planning provider to advisers across the UK, so we were ideally placed to talk about such a topic.

The first event took place in Glasgow on the 18th September with the roadshow wrapping up in Birmingham on the 18th October. As the event is aimed at paraplanners, we decided to send our paraplanners (or unsung heroes as they like to be called) to each event to present.

As many of you are aware, we are loyal and longstanding supporters of Dragons Rugby. So it was great to be Matchday Sponsor for the most recent home game, which saw the Dragons win 16-5 against Zebre.

Like every home match at Rodney Parade, we were honoured to take 20 guests to the Dragons game and support our local region. If you would like to join us at a home game this season, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

The end of September saw us attend the South Wales Argus Business Awards, where Ray Adams was nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year award and the aforementioned CashCalc was nominated for Innovative Business of the Year.

Unfortunately, we didn’t come away with either award. But we did have the pleasure to listen to Paralympic champion Mark Colbourne and his excellent after dinner speech, which highlighted the synergies between sport and business.

New additions to the team

Here at Niche, we have always placed an emphasis on training the next generation. And we are fortunate enough to have a few professional routes, from training to be a financial adviser through to joining our expanding web-development team.

September saw the arrival of 2 new team members, Benjamin Cresswell and Chris Daniels. Benjamin has joined our marketing team on an internship until the end of the year, whilst Chris has joined our paraplanning team following 6 years with Lloyds Banking Group.

The end of September saw the close of the cricket season for Glamorgan County Cricket Club and so the end of our annual sponsorship deal. Most years, we allow Glamorgan to promote matches on our Head Office overlooking the M4 in return for some complimentary matchday tickets. If you would like to go to a match next year, please get in touch.

The end of summer also saw the end of the cricket season for Lisvane Cricket Club. We have been shirt sponsor of Lisvane Cricket Club for some years now, and it is great to be involved with the club as they go through an incredibly successful spell.

The end of the cricket season however simply means the start of the rugby and football season. This year we are incredibly proud to be shirt sponsors for both Hartridge RFC and Crindau Corries AFC, and look forward to keeping you up to date with their progression this winter.
